I, FRANKENSTEIN COULD BECOME A HIT OVERSEAS

I, Frankenstein, which appeared to have arrived stillborn at the domestic box office over the weekend, is putting on the ritz overseas, according to a studio summary of ticket sales in several foreign countries. Although the film placed sixth on the North American box-office list for the weekend, it was in first place in Russia, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria, earning some $8 million in those countries (about what it earned in the U.S.). The film also collected $1.2 million in Germany, $1.6 million in Brazil, and $2 million in Mexico. Nevertheless, it has a long way to go before it recoups its $65-million production cost.
