JUDE LAW RECALLS HOW TABLOID LEARNED OF HIS SECRET MEETINGS

At the trial of former News International executives who are accused of overseeing the hacking of voicemails of celebrities and other public figures in the U.K., actor Jude Law described how he learned that information about his private life was falling into the hands of reporters. “I became aware that I was also turning up at places having arranged to go there secretly … and the media were already there, or photographers were already there,” he testified. But a lawyer for the defense suggested that reporters for NI’s News of the World, which had published the information, might have learned it from other sources. He wrote down a name on a sheet of paper and showed it to Law, asking him whether he knew that a member of his family was being paid for information about him. He replied, “I have never been aware of that, getting paid for it,” he replied. The first time he had learned of that, he said, was in court today (Monday). The name was not disclosed in court.
