After winning multiple awards, including best picture, from the National Society of Film Critics, Ethan and Joel Coen’s Inside Llewyn Davis turned in another exceptional showing in limited release this weekend. The film earned $1.17 million from just 156 theaters, or a solid per-screen average of $7,532, just 6 percent below its take a week ago. Also performing strongly was the Weinstein Company’s Philomena, which took in $1.5 million in 602 theaters, or an average of $2,557 per screen. That’s an impressive figure for a film that has now been in theaters for seven weeks. Another Weinstein Company release, August: Osage County continued to do solid business in the same five theaters where it debuted last weekend. It earned $140,887 for a per-screen average of $28,177. It is due to go into wide release next weekend. Playing on 47 screens, the probable Oscar contender Her actually rose 11 percent this weekend with a total take of about $722,000, or $15,400 per screen.
