The biggest problem facing manufacturers of 4K Ultra HDTV (or “UHD”) sets is that there are so few movies that can be played on them. Koream manufacturer Samsung on Monday appeared to take a step toward overcoming that hurdle when it announced that it had signed an agreement with Paramount Home Media that will see select Paramount movies come pre-loaded in Samsung’s 4D video packages that will be included in the sale of its new sets. Samsung had previously signed a similar agreement with 20th Century Fox. “We are delighted to work with Samsung to showcase the sensational capabilities of their UHD TVs,” said Amy Reinhard, EVP and GM of Paramount Home Media Distribution, in a statement. “This is a terrific opportunity for consumers to truly experience the superior picture quality of UHD with some of our most popular films.” Meanwhile, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said that Netflix’s original House of Cards will soon be available in 4K resolution on smart TV sets manufactured by LG, another Korean-based manufacturer.
