RATINGS FLAT FOR OBAMA’S STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

Some 20.7 million viewers watched President Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night on the four major broadcast networks — plus not-yet-counted millions more on the cable-TV news networks. CBS drew the most viewers — 7.43 million, largely due to the fact that its lead-in was a rerun of NCIS, which drew 11.43 million viewers, the highest-rated show of the night. NBC was second with 5.57 million, followed by ABC with 4.89 million and Fox with 2.83 million. However, among the 18-49 set, NBC came out ahead, again likely due to the fact that its SOTU lead-in was The Biggest Loser, which attracts more younger viewers than NCIS.
UPDATECombined with cable viewers, the total audience for the president’s speech came to 33.3 million, the lowest number for a SOTU address since 2000, according to preliminary figures.
