Charter Communications, which operates the fourth-largest cable-TV company in the U.S., is reportedly teaming up with Comcast, the nation’s largest cable operator, in a takeover bid for Time Warner cable, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Tuesday), citing several people familiar with the talks. According to the Times reporter Charter is expected to proceed alone in its effort to buy Time Warner Cable. If it then succeeds, it would then sell off Time Warner’s cable systems in New York, New England and North Carolina to Comcast. Reacting to the scenario, media analyst Craig Moffett said, “News that Comcast and Charter are close to a deal to join forces in a bid for TWC is genuinely a game changer.”
