For the second time in a matter of months the star of a film has died well into the film’s production but before its completion. The death of Philip Seymour Hoffman has occurred with at least one major scene of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 featuring him not yet filmed, according to published reports. A production executive working on it declined to describe the scene, telling the Hollywood Reporter, “Why would I want to give people something to look for two years from now?” But some have suggested that producers will no doubt employ digital technology to recreate the scenes that Hoffman — and Paul Walker in the next Fast and Furious flick — had yet to film at the time of their deaths. Veteran effects supervisor Paul Legato seemed to suggest that, while expensive, it could be done. “These days the technology of using someone’s likeness is a whole lot easier to do,” he said. “I won’t say you could generate a Philip Seymour Hoffman with all the acting ability, but you could certainly replicate him for a shot or two.”
