NBC is stepping up its effort to attract a younger audience for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon than it did with The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. As part of that effort, it launched a mobile app for the show on Thursday that will not only offer clips from the show, but interactive diversions as well. In the words of the announcement: “Viewers can use the app to submit content for interactive challenges that may be featured on-air, play custom Jimmy-themed games and get exclusive messages from Jimmy and the show.” No reviews of the four games included with the app have yet been posted, but NBC appears to acknowledge that they’ll be no challenge to “Grand Theft Auto.” They are “designed in the classic 8-bit style,” the network said, with more games “allowing for more topical content” coming later. One of the games, “Jimmy Quest” is described as “a modern spin on the classic adventure game where users will help Jimmy secure an amazing guest for his first night on the Tonight show. That first night is set for February 17, when the app will also become available for Android users. It is currently available for iOS users (iPhone, iPad, iPhone Touch).
