MIXOLOGY SUFFERS A HANGOVER AFTER ITS FIRST NIGHT

ABC’s Mixology premiered to dreadful reviews and ratings Wednesday night. Following ABC’s hit Modern Family, which averaged 8.57 million viewers, the Ryan Seacrest-produced Mixology dropped 40 percent to 5.22 million. (At the same time, Seacrest was appearing on Fox’s American Idol, which drew 10.64 million viewers Wednesday night.) Critics were unmerciful in their reviews of the show. “Did the network think by pairing one of TV’s best sitcoms with one of the worst, the hour would average out?” asked USA Today‘s Robert Bianco. Robert Lloyd of the Los Angeles Times dismissed it as “full of hooey.” And David Hinkley in the New York Daily News concludes his review by remarking, “At the end of the night, Mixology doesn’t have a lot of fizz.” On the other hand, David Wiegand in the San Francisco Chronicle had mostly nice things to say about the new sitcom. “Here’s the dirty little secret of Mixology” he wrote. “It’s intelligent and poignant as well as being entertaining.”
