ORACLE YANKED PRODUCT PLACEMENT SCENES FROM SHADOW RECRUIT

February 7, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

After spending “hundreds of thousands of dollars” for a product placement in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Oracle, the database software group, asked that the scenes be removed, the London Financial Times reported today (Friday). According to the newspaper, which cited several people close to the situation, Oracle “got cold feet” following Edward Snowden’s revelations about the NSA’s surveillance of Silicon Velley technology companies. Skydance Productions, which co-produced the movie with Paramount, is run by David Ellison, son of Oracle founder Larry Ellison. (Sibling Megan Ellison heads Annapurna Pictures, which has produced such hits as The Master, Zero Dark Thirty, Her, and American Hustle.) The FT reported that Oracle was charged for the re-edit but did not get back the money it originally paid for the product placement.
