Despite the fact that it was airing opposite the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics, AMC’s The Walking Dead attracted 13.1 million viewers Sunday night and a 6.6 rating among the 18-49 age group. NBC’s coverage from Sochi averaged 13.5 million viewers and a 3.2 rating. On the TVbytheNumbers website, one commenter wrote, “While much of the world capped the weekend by marveling at the brutal display of force fireworks with which Russia closed out the Sochi Games, Americans ages 18-49 took in the only sport they seem to care about these days: competitive corpse bashing.” The broadcast networks offered up little competition to the Olympics — and the Dead — airing mostly reruns. Only two shows aired original material — CBS’s 60 Minutes, which drew 8.99 million viewers, and ABC’s The Proposal, which drew 5.13 million.
