BLACK JESUS? ADULT SWIM CHANNEL WAITS FOR THE SPARKS TO FLY

The Adult Swim cable channel appears to be courting controversy with its upcoming new series Black Jesus. In the pilot, a black character, played by Gerald “Slink” Johnsonn, is discovered sleeping in a dilapidated building in Compton, a crime-ridden suburb of Los Angeles. Says Adult Swim’s description: “We join an outspoken black Jesus as he gives the secrets to Steve Jobs’ success, turns water into Hennessy, heads to the club and many more hilarious adventures.” Some conservative Christian groups, however, may not find those adventures hilarious, particularly given the fact that it comes from Aaron McGruder, creator of “The Boondocks.” Only recently Fox News host Megyn Kelley ignited a to-do over her remarks that “Jesus is white.”
