March Madness is with us again — with a vengeance. TVbytheNumbers.com reported that Friday’s coverage across CBS, TBS TNT and truTV averaged 8.4 million viewers, making it the most-viewed first Friday of the NCAA basketball tournament in 23 years. However, on CBS alone, the basketball coverage averaged 3.9 million viewers, putting the network in third place for the night. (The highest-rated show of the night was ABC’s Shark Tank, which averaged 8.1 million viewers.) The NCAA tournament advanced to 7.3 million viewers on CBS on Saturday and 10 million across all platforms, making it the most-viewed first Saturday game since 1993. Finally, an overrun of a day game on Sunday attracted 13.9 million viewers. (CBS’s The Good Wife was up slightly on Sunday, but the ratings impact of its bombshell climax won’t be known until later in the week when Nielsen’s “live plus three” — measuring the number of people who viewed the episode on DVRs over the three days following the original broadcast — is disclosed.)
