It may not have a new Batman feature to promote this year, but Warner Bros. and corporate sibling DC Comics are planning to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the caped crusader throughout the year, the companies announced today (Thursday). The companies were vague about what will be included in the celebrations except to say that they will include a “Cape/Cowl?create art exhibit in which 30 artists “interpret” the superhero’s cowl headpiece and cape. There’s also a new Batman logo, with the number 75 appearing on the iconic silhouette logo. Batman first appeared in comic books in Detective Comics #27, which hit newsstands on March 30, 1939. In making its announcement, Warner Bros. noted that Batman “is the single most successful superhero film franchise in history.” That may be technically correct. The seven modern-day Batman movies have earned a worldwide total of $3.7 billion. But the four Spider-Man movies have earned a worldwide total of $3.2 billion
