Sophia Loren, who turns 80 in September, will be returning to the Cannes Film Festival, where she won the award for best actress for her performance in producer Carlo Ponti’s Two Women, directed by Vittorio De Sica. She will be making two appearances there — the first for a screening of La Voce Humana (The Human Voice, directed by her son, Edoardo Ponti. (Carlo Ponti, her late husband and Edoardo’s father, died in 2007 at age 94.) The film, based on a play by Jean Cocteau, marks Loren’s return to the screen after a ten-year absence. Later that evening she will attend a screening of a restored print of her 1964 film Marriage Italian Style, also produced by Carlo Ponti and directed by Vittorio De Sica. The festival said that Loren has also accepted an invitation to present a “masterclass” from the stage of one of the principal screening rooms of the festival.
