CAPTAIN AMERICA SOLDIERS ON OVERSEAS

Captain America: The Winter Soldier also ruled overseas. In its second week abroad, as it expanded into China, Russia and Australia, it hauled in $107.1 million — $39.2 million in China alone — to bring its ten-day international total to $207 million and its worldwide total to more than $303 million. The impact of such a box-office performance internationally is not to be underestimated, veteran box-office analyst Paul Dergarabedian suggested in an interview with the Associated Press. Dergarabedian, now senior media analyst for Rentrak, observed that the results show that “you can release a big movie any time of the year. Every studio is going to be looking at this date to plant their flag in the future.” Meanwhile, Paramount’s Noah also continued to perform solidly overseas. While it was a near wash-out in North America — it fell 61 percent — it took in $45.6 million overseas, bringing its international total to $106.2 million and its worldwide total to $178.5 million.
