Writer-director J.J. Abrams on Monday released the names of the cast of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII (presumably an additional descriptor will be appended to that title). Joining members of the cast from the original film trilogy are John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow. A photo posted on shows them seated at Pinewood Studios near London, where the movie will be filmed, during a read-through of the script with Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Peter Mayhew. Absent from the photo is Kenny Baker, who operated the original R2D2 robot. But an open box containing the robot is seen in the photo behind the cast. Although it had earlier been reported that an actual electronic R2D2 will be used in the new movie, it was not known until Monday whether Baker, who is now 79, would also appear in the newest episode. He is the only actor who has appeared in all six previous Star Wars episodes, although he has been well hidden by the contraption.
