Entertainment mogul David Geffen said on Monday that he would be interested in buying the L.A. Clippers basketball team of current owner Donald Sterling is forced by other NBA owners to sell it. Geffen, the “G” in the original DreamWorks SKG banner (the “S” was Steven Spielberg and the “K,” Jeffrey Katzenberg), reportedly attempted to buy the franchise in 2010 for $600 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. Contacted by the Los Angeles Times, Geffen’s office said in an email response: “If the Clippers become available he would be interested in buying the franchise.” On Monday, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, responding to the release of a recorded telephone conversation in which Sterling is heard making racist remarks, banned Sterling from any association with the Clippers for life and fined him $2.5 million. He also said that he would encourage the NBA’s other owners to force Sterling to sell the team.
