DESPITE SCANDAL, WOODY ALLEN’S NEW MOVIE SEEMS TO BE A HIT

Worries over how Dylan Farrow’s allegations of sexual abuse against Woody Allen would affect ticket sales for his new movie were laid to rest over the weekend as moviegoers grabbed up tickets to see Fading Gigolo, in which he costars with John Turturo. The film earned $198,399 from two theaters in New York and two in Los Angeles — or an average of $39,680, making it the second-best limited opening of the year after Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, which took in $303,792 from the same four theaters in March. The film was critically well received, and distributor Millennium Entertainment attributed a big jump in ticket sales between Friday and Saturday to strong word-of-mouth.
