The late-night battle between the two Jimmys became closer Thursday as ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live with a Scandal-themed episode beat the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in the ratings by a substantial margin. According to preliminary figures, Kimmel averaged a 3.4 household rating and an 8 share for Thursday versus Fallon’s 2.1/5. Among the 18-49 age group, Kimmel posted a 1.4/6 to Fallon’s 0.8/4. David Letterman’s Late Show tied Fallon’s Tonight show among total adults but drew only a 0.4/2 among 18-49-year-old viewers. Additional figures, including a count of the number of total viewers, are expected to be released later today (Friday). In a press release ABC boasted that Jimmy Kimmel Live won its time slot in 9 of the top 10 U.S. markets. It marked Kimmel’s best showing since moving to the 11:35 time period in January 2013.
