With a surprisingly strong $43.7 million in ticket sales, Paramount’s Noah took over as the raining king of the box office over the weekend. On Friday, most box-office pundits were predicting that it would earn around $30 million and face a tight race with the previous week’s champ, Divergent, for first place. As things turned out, the race was not at all close, as Divergent placed a distant second with $25.6 million, down 53.1 percent from its debut week. Two other new films disappointed. Sabotage, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, opened with just $5.3 million, while the Cesar Chavez biopic opened outside the top 10 with $2.86 million in just 664 theaters. Overall, the box office was virtually flat with last year’s for the comparable week, down less than 1 percent.
