The season premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones drew 6.6 million viewers on Sunday, making it the the most-watched show on the pay-TV network since the series finale of The Sopranos in 2007. Including two replays later in the evening, some 8.2 million people watched the episode. Countless more viewers might have watched it on the Internet via HBO Go, but the website became apparently so overloaded that it jammed and became inaccessible for several hours., which tracks BitTorrent usage, said that as soon as the episode aired, it was uploaded onto many pirate sites. It reported that half a day after the episode appeared online, over a million people had downloaded it via a torrent site and by early this morning (Tuesday) more than 300,000 people were actively sharing one of the torrents. “During the days to come the number of downloads is expected to grow by several millions,” it said.
