Two British newspapers, the News Corp-owned London Times, and the tabloid the Mirror, carried advertisements today (Tuesday) describing how sexual-abuse victims of the late TV host Jimmy Savile could file claims for as much as £60,000 (approximately US$100,000). Thus far, some 140 people have claimed that they were Savile’s victims over a period of more than 30 years, but authorities have estimated that the actual number may come to more than a thousand. Lawyers for the Savile estate have expressed the belief that those who are willing to acknowledge that they were abused by Savile have already emerged. Today’s newspaper ads advise anyone else who wishes to make a sexual-assault claim by Savile to do so within the next six weeks, i.e., by June 3.
