BRIAN WILLIAMS LANDS FIRST TV INTERVIEW WITH EDWARD SNOWDEN

With last week’s departure of Barbara Walters from the TV news scene, several TV columnists opined that the day of the big “get” may now be over, that TV news stars will no longer be spending time trying to land controversial figures for their programs. They may want to reconsider that theory following word that NBC’s Brian Williams had landed an interview with Edward Snowden. NBC announced on Thursday that the Snowden interview will be aired as a primetime special at 10:00 p.m. on May 28, but there was little doubt that excerpts would also show up on the Today show and on Williams’s own NBC Nightly News prior to the day of the special. It will mark Snowden’s first American TV interview since he leaked documents about the NSA’s widespread surveillance activities to Britain’s Guardian and the Washington Post. Glenn Greenwald the former Guardian journalist who broke the Snowden story, is also scheduled to appear in the special.
