CBS chief Les Moonves has confirmed that the network is developing its own news channel — only this one will be seen not on cable but on the Internet. Appearing on Bloomberg’s all-news — or, at any rate, all business news — channel, Moonves remarked, “With all the content going digital right now, wouldn’t it be a good idea to do a 24-hour digital channel taking all the resources that CBS News has…all over the world. And there is so much information that we get every day that doesn’t fit into a 22-minute newscast at 6:30 or CBS This Morning. So we can do that.” Moonves indicated that the digital news channel is currently only in its “early stages” of development but that it could potentially be “an exciting alternative to cable news.”
