Perhaps there were simply too many people away from their TV sets watching a late-night screening of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but Andrew Garfield, who hosted Saturday Night Live, drew the show’s lowest ratings of the season, according to (which noted that the ratings tied a season low). The show featured one sketch in which Garfield and his co-star, Emma Stone, are shown awkwardly trying to perform a kissing scene in the movie, at which point Coldplay singer Chris Martin interrupts to demonstrate how its done, saying to Garfield, “With great power comes great responsibility, and our responsibility right now is to make sweet, sweet love. So, why don’t you go ahead and show me your beautiful tongue?” Garfield drew terrific reviews. New York magazine’s Vulture blog said his performance as host was “a pleasant surprise” and “that he was brimming with charisma and personality, and eager to please, without coming across as too eager.” While the ratings may have been low by Saturday Night Live standards, they nevertheless were higher than any show televised on any TV or cable network during primetime on Saturday among both total households and viewers in the 18-49 age group.
