The box office is likely to be bewitched by Angelina Jolie in the title role of Maleficent this weekend, box office pundits are predicting. The PG-rated film from Disney, they say, is likely to conjure up $50-70 million domestically and easily overtake last week’s leader, X-Men: Days of Future Past and the new Seth MacFarlane entrant, the R-rated A Million Ways to Die in the West. It is also likely to represent Jolie’s best opening ever in a live-action film. Her previous best was 2008’s Wanted, which opened with $50.9 million in 2008. X-Men will reportedly provide little competition. Given poor reviews and the recent release of another raunchcom, Neighbors, A Million Ways will be lucky to take in $25-30 million, analysts say. As for the latest X-Men movie, it probably will see earnings plummet by more than $50 million from last week.
