NETFLIX RECEIVES BAFTA AWARD FOR SHOW IT DIDN’T PRODUCE

Netflix is not a television network — it operates only online — but it was treated like one on Sunday when it received an award from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, better known as BAFTA, for the drama Breaking Bad. Netflix has nothing to do with the production of the series — it is produced by by Sony Pictures Television and the U.S. cable channel AMC — but it is its exclusive distributor in the U.K. An irony is that the series beat out House of Cards, which is produced by Netflix, in the International Drama category. To compound the irony, the Netflix House of Cards is a U.S. remake of the BBC’s TV series of the same name, which received fourteen BAFTA nominations and won two.
