Not a ball was in play, not a uniform was in sight and the venue was Radio City Music Hall and not some gigantic sports arena — and still the NFL Draft on ESPN drew more viewers than almost anything that aired during primetime on the broadcast networks Thursday night, according to early overnight ratings from Nielsen. The ESPN telecast garnered a 6.8 household rating. On broadcast TV, only the top contender, CBS’s The Big Bang Theory, did better, posting a 9.9 rating. The coverage drew additional viewers on he NFL Network, and while it only garnered a 1.87 rating, that figure was still higher than those for the two NHL playoff games carried b NBCSN. Total viewer numbers are expected to be released by Nielsen later today (Friday).
