Netflix has already altered the television landscape. How it will look two years from now is anybody’s guess. Except for one element: it will include a streaming talk show on Netflix starring Chelsea Handler. Handler has sharply criticized E!, where her current talk show airs, particularly for some of its more sleazy reality shows such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians. "If I was going to continue working in this industry, I knew I had to do something outside the box to keep myself interested," Handler said in a statement. "I’m more excited than I’ve been in a while, and the team at Netflix is the most forward thinking, alert group I’ve sat down with in ages." Netflix has referred to Handler’s upcoming show as a "late-night talk show," a curious description given the fact that streaming shows can be watched on demand at virtually any hour of the day. "It would appear that the folks at Netflix are sending a message that there are going to be various models for how we consume content and they want to be part of that," Bill Carroll, a vice president at Katz Television Group, told today’s (Friday) Los Angeles Times.
