Godzilla roared back to the top of the overseas box office, thanks to a delayed opening in China, where it raked in $36 million — or 95 percent of its $38 million foreign total. It has yet to open in Japan, where it has a release date of July 25. The monster movie’s international total now stands at $248.3 million, while its global tally moves up to $440 million. The Tom Cruise sci-fi thriller Edge of Tomorrow continued to perform far more robustly overseas than it did at home, ending up with $37.4 million and edging out Disney’s Maleficent with $37.2 million. How to Train Your Dragon 2 followed in fourth place with $24.8 million, while X-Men: Days of Future Past rounded out the top five internationally with $18.2 million. With the top three films earning more than $100 million, the overseas box office did not take the kind of hit from World Cup mania that some analysts were expecting.
