Spanish-speaking moviegoers have become “far and away the most important consumer” at movie theater box offices and concession stands, John Fithian, CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), said on Saturday. He noted that “Hispanics are becoming increasingly a powerful source of income” for the overall entertainment economy, As reported by, 44 percent of Hispanics go to the movies “a few times” each month and 63 percent rent movies on home video, percentages strikingly ahead of those for non-Hispanics. Fithian also disclosed that NATO is developing an app for iOS and Android users that will simultaneously translate movies from one language into another. “We are talking to a couple of companies who will be working with our members to test usability and any possible disruption to other patrons,” a rep for the organization told
