DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 and Sony’s 22 Jump Street (the sequel of 21 Jump Street) will likely finish in first- and second-place at the box office this weekend, but analysts disagree over the order in which they will land. Both films, however, are expected to earn slightly more than $50 million. If they do, it would represent a rarity., there have only been three times in movie history that two films have opened above $50 million (in 2008, 2012, and 2013, each time in June). Today’s (Friday) Los Angeles Times said the two films could each gross $60-65 million, although their respective studios are taking a more cautious approach, predicting $45-50 million. Both films almost certainly will perform better than the originals, box office pundits are saying. 21 Jump Street opened with $36.3 million and the original Dragon opened with$43.7 million.
