REPORT: MOONVES WOULD HAVE VETOED HANDLER FOR LATE-NIGHT

Although Chelsea Handler was reportedly high on CBS’s list to replace either David Letterman or Craig Ferguson after the two late-show hosts announced their decision to step down, it now appears that CBS chief Les Moonves would have vetoed her because of her sometimes raunchy shtick. Buttonholed by a reporter for TMZ as he was leaving a Beverly Hills restaurant last Thursday, Moonves was asked to comment on the news that Handler will be hosting a talk show for Netflix beginning in 2016. "You know what, I think Chelsea’s fabulous, I think it’s a great move on her part. I think it’s a great move on their [Netflix’s] part," he started off by saying. He then added, "I think Chelsea’s material will fit Netflix probably better than broadcast. … They got a good lady." Late-night television, he finally said, is undergoing a "generational shift, and I think it’s great."
