THE WALKING DEAD: WAS THERE A BIGGER HIT ON TV?

AMC’s The Walking Dead may have been the most-watched show on television this past season, according to figures disclosed by the Hollywood Reporter today (Thursday). The trade publication estimated that the cable drama was watched by an average of more than 28 million viewers every week, taking into consideration the show’s 18.4 million live-plus-7 day ratings, replays by the channel, on-demand and TV Everywhere. “Numbers are greater still,” noted the Reporter, “when you take piracy into account, not to mention the massive lifts from international viewers.” AMC shares, which had fallen in recent months largely on the basis of reports that it was planning to produce its own original programming, remained flat in mild, mid-morning trading today (Thursday).
