Overseas, Paramount’s Transformers: Age of Extinction opened with more than $200 million despite the fact that the studio had held it back from release in Europe and most of Latin America to avoid competition from the World Cup. Paramount estimated that the movie earned $201.3 million in 37 markets, $90 million of which came from mainland China. Ticket sales in China alone also produced the No 2 movie at the overseas box office this weekend for the Chinese romantic comedy The Breakup Guru, which brought in $20.6 million. In third place place was DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon, with $17.9 million. Disney’s Maleficent with $16 million followed. The teen tearjerker, The Fault in Our Stars rounded out the top ten with $13 million.
