Nearly half of all U.S. households have at least one TV set connected to the Internet via one settop box or another and about a quarter of adults watch streaming video on them at least once a week, according to a study by Leichtman Research Group that was reported on Wednesday by Home Media magazine. Virtually all of them stream content from Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video and/or Hulu Plus. The same study found that on a daily basis 31 percent of adults watch video on home computers or mobile devices and 58 percent do so weekly. This recent growth was spurred by Netflix’s decision in the third quarter of 2011 to focus on streaming video, coupled with the proliferation of connected TV devices, smartphones, and iPads and tablets, principal analyst Bruce Leichtman said.
