Highlighting the U.S.’s growing interest in soccer, Monday’s World Cup match between the U.S. and Ghana — won by the U.S 2-1 — drew 11.09 million viewers, making it the highest-rated and most-viewed men’s soccer match ever on ESPN. according to Nielsen. Research, far ahead of the previous record holder, the 2010 contest between the U.S. and Algeria, which averaged 6.16 million viewers. It was in fact the highest rated telecast on ESPN since the BCS football championship game last January 6.
