UNIVISION OWNERS LOOKING FOR A BUYER, SAYS REPORT

June 16, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Haim Saban and the four private equity firms that he put together to finance the $13.7-billion purchase of Univision in 2007 are now prepared to sell it — for $20 billion, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Monday), citing people familiar with the group’s strategy. The Times report said that the owners are seeking to capitalize on the recent wave of media mergers such as Comcast/Time Warner and AT&T/DirecTV. Although the Wall Street Journal reported last week that Univision has had preliminary discussions with CBS and Time Warner, the Times said that no negotiations between investors groups and Univision are currently underway. Some analysts are predicting that Univision will probably go on the block late this year, in time for the various awards ceremonies.
