DVR VIEWERS BOOST RATINGS FOR CBS’S NEW SUMMER SERIES

After seeing ratings for its summer series Extant sink by a third for its second episode — to 6.5 million viewers from 9.6 million viewers in its debut — CBS is moving the sci-fi drama to a later timeslot in hopes of boosting its audience. The network said that it will air the drama at 10:00 p.m. starting on Wednesday, replacing repeats of Criminal Minds, which will move to 9:00 p.m. On Monday, the network announced that the first episode of Extant picked up another 3 million viewers for its series opener from viewers who watched it on their DVRs within seven days following the live broadcast. It had been ranked the highest-rated show of the week by Nielsen. The network’s other summer series, Under the Dome also posted improved ratings following the Live + 7 results. The number of viewers rose to 12.08 million from 7.70 million, a jump of 57 percent. That would have put it slightly above Extant.
