Giving yet another boost to faith-based movies, Sony’s Heaven Is for Real debuted at No. 1 on the home video charts for last week. The Nielsen VideoScan First Alert chart does not specify actual sales figures, but it did indicate that the movie, based on a best seller about a boy who claims he had visited heaven during a near-death experience, was the top seller among all DVDs and all Blu-ray Discs. It was also No. 1 on Home Media magazine’s rental chart. The film, which reportedly cost $12 million to produce, raked in $91 million at the domestic box office. Placing second on the video charts was last week’s No. 1 release, 20th Century Fox’s Rio 2. In third place was the Arnold Schwarzenegger box-office flop Sabotage, followed by two other disappointments, Warner Bros.’ Transcendence and Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry’s The Single Moms Club.
