In the latest shakeup at Sony Pictures, Jeff Blake, the company’s vice chairman and the chairman of its worldwide marketing and distribution operation, announced that he will leave on Aug. 1 "to pursue other opportunities." Blake had managed to stay aloof from the recent round of executive firings, and his job was thought to be secure. However, the latest Spider-Man film came up far short of expectations, and Blake’s marketing department was widely blamed. "I have had a great 22 years here at Sony Pictures and have worked for and with some amazing people," said Blake in a parting statement in which he praised the company’s co-chairmen, Amy Pascal and Michael Lynton. "I have tremendous respect for Michael and Amy, and I wish them and the great team at Sony nothing but the best," he said.
