If Transformers: Age of Extinction takes the same sort of box-office plunge in its second week that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen did in 2009, Melissa McCarthy’s Tammy could emerge as the top film of the holiday weekend. That’s a big "if." Fallen fell 61 percent over the comparable holiday weekend five years ago. If Extinction suffers a similar fate, that would still leave it with $39 million. Box-office forecasters say that, given the strong opening of Tammy during earlier this week, it should wind up with around $35-40 million. Reviews of the movie have been terrible, but then, so were the reviews for Extinction — and, for that matter, two other films that are opening this weekend: the horror flick Deliver Us from Evil and the sci-fi thriller Earth to Echo.
