Reflecting the overall infirmity of commercial radio in the age of digital media, the Walt Disney Co. announced on Tuesday that it plans to cease operating 23 radio stations that it owns on Sept. 26 and sell them. The stations, which carry the Radio Disney format, target children and families. Disney said it will move the content to the Internet, where it will be able to "optimize the network for long-term growth." About 200 people will receive pink slips following the move. In a message to staff, Radio Disney General Manager Phil Guerini said, "Please know that we approached this decision with care and rigor and will provide transition support to those who will be departing the organization."
