Just when it seemed as if NBC’s Today was making a move to overtake ABC’s Good Morning America to rule the morning hours on network TV again, GMA’s ratings have surged. For the week of July 21, the ABC talk show averaged 5.1 million viewers, 1.1 million more than Today with 4.0 million, according to Nielsen Research Among adults 18-49,GMA attracted 1.3 million while Today drew 82,000 fewer viewers (a virtual tie). It was GMA‘s biggest victory over its principal competitor since the final week of 2013. CBS This Morning, meanwhile, remained an also-ran, averaging about half the number of GMA‘s total viewers and viewers in the 18-49 age group.
