LUCY EXPANDS OVERSEAS, CLIMBS TO NO. 1

Overseas, Luc Besson’s Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson, took in a mind-blowing $34 million in 43 markets to become the No. 1 film internationally, TheWrap.com reported. The weekend haul brought the film’s overseas total to $103 million, almost as much as its total domestic total of $113 million. Disney/Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy was No. 2, collecting $20.7 million from 67 markets. That brought its foreign total to $237 million and its global to $489 million. Also this weekend, Maleficent crossed the $500-million mark overseas to $510 million. Its worldwide total climbed to $748 million, making it the second-highest-grossing global release so far this year behind only Transformers: Age of Extinction, which has now earned $821.3 million.
