Theaters are likely to be awash in tears this weekend as the movie adaptation of the young-adult novel If I Stay debuts. Most box-office pundits are predicting that it will open with around $25-30 million, but Warner Bros., which is releasing it, anticipates that it will earn around $20 million. It has been the top seller this week at online ticket broker Fandango. Two other new films are expected to debut more modestly. The sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For from directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller is expected to earn $15-20 million. But Hollywood’s latest football drama, When the Games Stands Tall, is not expected to clear $10 million. Two holdovers,Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, are expected to battle it out for third place behind If I Stay and Sin City with about $15 million each.
