Perhaps writing an end to the volumes of amateur psychoanalyses of Robin Williams’s suicide, his widow, Susan Schneider, revealed on Thursday that her husband had been diagnosed with early stages of Parkinson’s Disease, something, she said, he "was not yet ready to share publicly." Schneider said that while his "sobriety was intact," he nevertheless continued to struggle with depression and anxiety. Michael J. Fox, who himself was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991, tweeted that he was "Stunned to learn Robin had PD." Williams had helped raise funds for Fox’s foundation to fight the disease. "Pretty sure his support for our [foundation] predated his diagnosis," Fox wrote. Parkinson’s is a slowly developing degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system, whose cause is unknown. Muhammad Ali and former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno are among other notable figures who suffer from PD.
