Once again, CBS’s summer dramas Extant and Under the Dome significantly expanded their ratings when viewers who watched the shows on their DVRs within seven days after the original broadcast were included in the total. CBS said in a statement that Under the Dome gained an additional 4.33 million viewers and Extant nearly 3 million. In fact, the network said, with live plus 7 playback, Under the Dome‘s total audience came to 11.97 million viewers (from 7.64 million for live plus same day), making it the week’s top-rated program in total viewers and adults 25-54. Extant rose to 10.94 million. One person on the TVbytheNumbers website noted that Nielsen appears to be stepping up mailings of paper diaries to people who are not being surveyed electronically. "Majority of what I watch was [via] DVR," he said.
