Ratings for CBS’s Sunday afternoon football telecasts are averaging 23 percent higher than those for NBC’s Sunday Night Football telecasts in primetime, the network said on Wednesday. The Sunday afternoon games on CBS have averaged 26.8 million total viewers, versus 21.8 million for NBC’s primetime telecasts. Last Sunday’s game, which amounted to a Super Bowl rematch between Denver and Seattle was the highest-rated game of the season — daytime or primetime. It averaged 27.3 million viewers, peaking during the runover period (in primetime) in the 7:30 p.m. half hour to 32.9 million viewers. It was up 7 percent from the comparable Sunday afternoon telecast a year ago when 25.6 million tuned in for the matchup between Indianapolis and San Francisco.
